PST file plays an important role in your professional life since it is used by Outlook to store all the emails, Contacts, Events, Meeting Requests, Appointments, etc. But the main problem with the .pst file is that it is susceptible to corruption. There are many reasons due to which a PST file gets corrupt. Accessing your .pst file over the network: On a network the PST file needs frequent access. But the PST may be unable to support the frequent access over the network. Since .pst file is in database format, then it may receive some garbage values which results in corruption.

Operating with more number of emails: Outlook will impasse if you operate with more number of emails. It is experimented that Outlook can handle up to 10000 mails at a time. Once PST file is corrupted Outlook starts showing abrupt behavior and pops up some errors at opening like “xxxx.pst can not be accessed – 0×80040116” or “The file xxxx.pst is not a personal folders file”, etc. Since Outlook uses a single .pst file to store all the data related to one particular account, upon corruption there are chances of losing all the information which you saved in your Outlook profile. In this case the possible solutions is using backup of the .pst file or fix corrupted PST file.
